Fighting COVID-19: 5 Safety Measures Implemented by The Astoria Group

June 4, 2020

Written by AVLCI

In January of 2020, the Philippine government declared the first case of novel coronavirus or COVID-19 in the country. As we all know, COVID-19 is an infectious disease that can easily be transmitted from one person to another through small droplets caused by coughing or sneezing and by touching objects that have been contaminated. Due to the massive impact and severe consequences tied to this virus, The Astoria Group has immediately taken the necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all its guests and employees.

Here is the list of how The Astoria Group is fighting the battle against this pandemic:

1.) Liquid soap and alcohol dispensers

According to a study published by The University of Iowa, 80% of illnesses are transmitted by unclean hands that have touched unsanitary surfaces. This rings true with COVID-19, as well. That’s why, aside from liquid soaps in restrooms, automatic sensor alcohol dispensers have also been placed in public areas of Astoria properties to lessen the possibility of contagion via contact.

2.) Thermal scanners

Aside from cough and colds, fever is one of the primary symptoms of COVID-19. Don’t be surprised if our security officers request to have your temperature checked. If you register below 38-degree Celsius, you will be allowed to enter the Astoria premises. However, if your temperature is 38-degree Celsius or above, you will be asked to go home and seek proper medical attention.

This applies to all employees as well, to make sure that everyone attending to our guests is in great shape.

3.) Medical-grade disinfecting solutions and cleaning procedures

The Housekeeping Department of each of the Astoria properties is thorough and disciplined in practicing regular sanitation procedures through utilizing medical-grade disinfecting solutions. Every 30 minutes, all public area surfaces such as elevator buttons and doorknobs are sanitized, and even vehicle tires and seats are disinfected before they can enter the Astoria premises.

4.) Advanced disinfecting and sanitation technology

Considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, The Astoria Group has heightened its hygiene protocols by utilizing industrial-grade ozonizing air purifier machines, UV light disinfecting machines, and special vacuums with UV sanitizing technology. Each equipment is used to ultimately eliminate the remaining bacteria and viruses.

5.) Social and physical distancing

Stay six feet apart to create a brand-new start! In compliance with the government’s protocols, our frontliners and the remaining guests of Astoria Plaza and Astoria Greenbelt follow the strict social distancing rules. Face masks, acetate face shields, gloves, and medical gowns are also provided to our high-risk staff for safety purposes. All other Astoria properties have been temporarily closed to avoid the spread of the virus.

This list proves that The Astoria Group, along with Astoria Vacation and Leisure Club, Inc. (AVLCI), continuously strives to keep guests and members safe from harm, be it from timeshare frauds, travel troubles, or even a powerful virus.

There is still a long way to go to overcome this pandemic, but we believe that with solidarity and compassion, in time, we will win against COVID-19.
